Women's Christmas, Ireland,6 January

The conclusion of the Christmas season in Ireland ends on the Epiphany (12th day).  This is the day when the women of Ireland got the opportunity to take time for themselves. They had spent the previous few weeks (and in many cases the rest of the year) taking care of others, but this was their time to get together and relax amongst friends. Getting a night to gather with others at the local pub and tell the stories of what they had been through.

Today, of course, women do not have the same lot (for the most part) as their mothers and grandmothers but some still do embrace this as a day and night to get together with friends.
